    Corporate History
    1918By promotion of the late Yukinori Kaneko,SHINANO SPUN SILK SPINNING Co.,Ltd.was established (capital 500,000yen).
    1962 Forecasting change in the industrial structure, an Electrical Department was established.
    1965 The late Norio Kaneko inaugurated as president.
    1971The fan motor for air conditioning machines is put on the market.
    1972Hachiro Kaneko inaugurated as president.

    Hanaoka Hosei Co.,Ltd.of Ueda-shi was acquired, the Ueda factory established on that site and production of tape decks begun (the present Electronic Equipment Division)
    1973Company name changed to SHINANO KENSHI Co.,Ltd.

    The gear motor for copying machines is put on the market.
    1976TAPE- BGM player developed by SHINANO KENSHl, and sales begun.
    1977Sales of coreless motors for VTRs begun.
    1980Textile, Electrical, and Electronic Equipment division system begun.
    1981The Higashiuchi factory constructed at Higashiuchi,Maruko -machi, and the machine process of the Electrical division moved there.
    Sales of step motors for Computer Peripherals begun.
    1982The company's capital became 300 million yen.
    SHINANO KENSHI CORPORATION established in Los Angeles.
    1984CS DENKI Co.,Ltd .established for the employment of senior citizens
    1985The name of the subsidiary Hanaoka Hosei Co.,Ltd. changed to TEXEL CORPORATION, and it's Tokyo office for export business opened.

    Sales of small offset printing press begun.
    1986As a first overseas production base, SHINANO KENSHl(Hong Kong)Co.,Ltd. established in Hong Kong.
    1987SHINANO KENSHl(Thailand)Co.,Ltd. established in Thailand.

    Sales of brushless DC motors with encoders begun.
    1989Sales of CD- BGM players and CD- I audio encoding systems begun.
    Sales of CD- ROM drives begun
    1990Tokyo and Osaka sales offices of the Electrical division opened.

    SHINANO KENSHI acquired managing rights to SAN- ESU DENKI Mfg.Co.,Ltd.

    TEXEL AMERICA,lnc. established in Sunnyvale, California.
    1991SHINANO KENSHI (Yan Tian, CHINA) Factory started motor production as processing trade of SKH.
    1992SHINANO KENSHl (Thailand)Co. ,Ltd .was expanded.

    TEXEL AMERICA, lnc. moved to Santa Clara.
    1993Printing Equipment Division was established.

    PLEXTOR S.A. was established in Belgium.

    1994The name of TEXEL AMERICA Inc. changed to PLEXTOR CORPORATION.

    The name of TEXEL CORPORATION. changed to PLEXTOR Co.,Ltd. in JAPAN.

    DONGGUAN SHINANO MOTOR CO., LTD. established as a subsidiary company in China.
    1995PLEXTOR (THAILAND)CO.,LTD. established in Bangkok.

    Introduced 6X speed CD-ROM drive into market ahead of competition.
    1996Introduced world fastest 8X speed CD-ROM drive.

    Electronic Equipment and Electrical divisions achieve ISO-9001 certification.

    Precision motor sales office opend in Nagoya.

    Developed CD book recording equipment for the visually-impaired.
    1997Printing Equipment Division achieves ISO9001 certification.

    32x CD-ROM drive released.

    Tokyo Sales Office and Plextor Tokyo Head Office moved to new location near the Yaesu side of Tokyo Station.

    The production at Shinano Kenshi (Hong Kong)Co.,Ltd.ceased and transferred to Dong Guan Shinano Motor Co.,Ltd. in China,because Hong Kong became a part of Mainland China.

    CD-R drive released to the market.
    1998 Dong Guan Shinano Motor Co.,Ltd. obtained ISO-9002 certification.

    Capital increased to 600 million Yen.

    All divisions of Shinano Kenshi Co,.Ltd. obtained ISO-14001 certification.

    SHINANO KENSHI Shanghai Rep. office opened.

    Sales of CD based talking book player for the visually-impaired begun.

    40x CD-ROM drive released.
    1999 The Ueda new factory was completed.

    CD-RW drive released.

    Shanghai Sales office of DONG GUAN SHINANO MOTOR CO.,LTD. opened.

    Hachiro Kaneko inaugurated as Chairman,Motoaki Kaneko inaugurated as President & C.E.O..
    2000 Shinano Kenshi (Thailand) Co., Ltd. obtained ISO 9001 certification.

    Listening Station(audition system by using bar code printed on CD jacket ) was developed.
    2001 Dong Guan Shinano Motor Co., Ltd. upgraded its ISO certification to ISO 9001.

    PLEXTOR CORPORATION moved to Fremont.

    PLEXTOR Shanghai Liason. Office opened.

    Slim Type CD-R/RW drive released to market.
    This drive was honored by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion organization with a 2001Good Design Award.
    2002 The name of CS DENKI CO., LTD.changed to CS SERVICE CO., LTD.

    Plextalk Portable Recorder for the visually-impaired released to market. This recorder was honored by the Japan Industrial Design Promotion organization with a 2002 Good Design Award.

    48x CD-R drive released to market.

    Inter Media System released to market.
    2003 Recordable DVD drive released to market.

    DONG GUAN SHINANO MOTOR CO., LTD. obtained ISO14001 certification in 2003.

    52x-speed CD-R/RW drive launched.

    Electrical Division's Europe liaison office opened in Belgium.

    Textile Division renamed as Engineered Materials Division.
